It has brewed its own beer on the island since 2018, using Miyajima’s natural water, and pours it fresh at a beer stand on the ground floor, open 10:30–17:00. It is on the Omotesando shopping street at 459-2 Miyajima-cho, about 7 minutes on foot from the ferry pier, in the same building as the Starbucks Coffee Itsukushima Omotesando store.

Expect around five beers on tap, a few island-only labels, and bottles to take home. The official site lists no regular closing day, but the brewery does close on a few days some months (five days in August 2026, including a Sunday) and occasionally for typhoons, so check its blog or Instagram before you make a special trip.

Miyajima Brewery at a glance

Address

459-2 Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima (Omotesando shopping street)

Hours

Beer stand and shop (ground floor) 10:30–17:00

Closed

No regular closing day listed; some days each month are announced on the blog, plus occasional typhoon closures

Getting there

Ferry from Miyajimaguchi (about 10 min), then about 7 min on foot from Miyajima Pier

On tap

Around five beers, brewed on site; the line-up changes with the season

To take home

Bottled beer at the shop; the brewery calls its “Island Label” series a Miyajima-only product

Not on the official site

Prices, seating, food and brewery tours; ask at the stand or call 0829-40-2607

What you can drink: Miyajima Beer and the Island Label

The brewery makes Miyajima Beer, which it describes as the island’s first craft beer. The brewers say they aim for clean, easy-drinking beers that do not overpower food, and they put the island’s character into the ingredients instead. The beers brewed on the island are sold as the Island Label, which the official site calls a Miyajima-only product.

The official site gives these as examples of its island-brewed beers:

Misen Dragon IPA: a hazy IPA, dry-hopped for a fresh hop aroma and bitterness. Misen is the island’s sacred mountain.

Miyajima Weizen: a wheat beer made with plenty of wheat malt, with a fruity aroma and a smooth feel.

Oyster Stout: a dark beer with shucked oysters added during the boil, giving a smoky aroma and a rich malt flavour. The brewery says even people from Hatsukaichi, the city Miyajima belongs to, are often surprised by it.

Best Wishes: a red ale with a clean bitterness and a berry-like aroma. It was created for a lunch for the leaders’ spouses during the G7 Hiroshima Summit in May 2023; a recreated version was later sold online in a limited run and sold out.

Seasonal beers come and go. Recent releases announced on the brewery’s blog include a coffee brown ale called Drip DEER!? (September 2025), a bergamot saison (October 2025), Dancing DEER!? (December 2025) and a canned Hazy IPA with citrus hop aromas, decorated with the Great Torii and the Five-storied Pagoda (February 2026). What is pouring on the day depends on when you visit.

The official pages give two figures for the range: the beer stand page says around five beers are on tap at any time, while the brewery’s introduction mentions seven or eight kinds across the whole line-up. Plan on a handful at the stand.

Is there a restaurant?

The official site lists only the ground-floor beer stand and shop; it mentions no restaurant, seating or food. Starbucks Coffee Itsukushima Omotesando shares the building, taking part of the ground floor and the floor above. Treat Miyajima Brewery as a place for a glass of fresh beer and a bottle to take home rather than a sit-down meal.

For food, the shopping street is the obvious match: grilled oysters are sold at shop fronts along the same street, and an Oyster Stout with oysters is a natural pairing. Our guide to Miyajima oysters lists where to eat them and what they cost, and the Omotesando shopping street guide covers the other snacks and the street’s eating etiquette.

Getting there and when to go

Take the JR or Matsudai ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima Pier (about 10 minutes; ¥200 one way plus the ¥100 Miyajima visitor tax), then walk along the Omotesando shopping street towards Itsukushima Shrine. The brewery is about 7 minutes from the pier, so it fits naturally on the way to the shrine or on the way back to the ferry. For boats and fares, see our Miyajima ferry guide.

The stand closes at 17:00. If you are planning the day around the shrine, the tide or the ropeway up Mount Misen, leave the beer for the early afternoon rather than the end of the day. Our Miyajima day trip guide has sample schedules.

The legal drinking age in Japan is 20.

Taking Miyajima Beer home

Bottled beer is sold at the shop as a souvenir, and the brewery calls the Island Label series a Miyajima-only product. Away from the island, Miyajima Beer is sold through the brewery’s online shop, and the brewery keeps a list of shops and bars that sell it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a brewery on Miyajima?

Yes.
