Res Clos, a restaurant and café lovingly renovated from a historic mansion built over 100 years ago, is one of Miyajima’s finest spots for Italian cuisine, blending seasonal ingredients from the Seto Inland Sea with modern European techniques. The highlight is the harmony between classic Japanese design and contemporary décor, where you can linger over a meal while gazing out at the tranquil Japanese garden. Located about a 15-minute walk from Miyajima Pier, it’s easy to reach and popular for a relaxed sightseeing lunch or a special-occasion dinner.
For those who want to enjoy a special meal in Miyajima, try Miyajima Res Clos!

From Miyajima Pier, it’s an easy 15-minute stroll to Miyajima Res Clos, an Italian restaurant tucked into the island’s traditional townhouse district.
A short step off the main street, it feels like a cozy, hidden gem. Our family first visited last year, and my eldest daughter was absolutely thrilled, exclaiming “This place is so stylish!” Dishes showcase carefully sourced Hiroshima ingredients and fresh seafood from the Seto Inland Sea, all served in a setting that reflects the island’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Expect seasonal menus that change with the tides and the weather—an elegant taste of local food in Japan beyond the famous grilled anago rice (conger eel) in Hiroshima.
A local Miyajima friend told me last month that even locals choose this authentic restaurant for special occasions. It offers genuine flavors that set it apart from typical tourist-area restaurants.

There are two lunch options: the Aki Course and the Miyajima Course. Details are as follows.
We always choose the “Miyajima Course”! Since it includes both fish and meat dishes, my husband is very satisfied. My youngest daughter always finishes everything, saying “The fish is so delicious!”
Aki Course
・Assorted appetizers
・Soup and bread
・Pasta
・Fish or meat dish
・Dessert, coffee or tea
Miyajima Course
・Assorted appetizers
・Soup and bread
・Pasta
・Fish dish
・Meat dish
・Dessert, coffee or tea
The “Aki Course” lets you choose either fish or meat, while the “Miyajima Course” includes both. Located on Machiya Street, it’s especially popular for lunch and often attracts groups. According to locals, weekdays between 2 PM and 4 PM are the quietest times, making it perfect if you want a leisurely meal. We recommend making a reservation by phone in advance.
After lunch in Miyajima, be sure to visit nearby attractions. Omotesando Shopping Street has plenty of souvenirs that children will love.
A renovated 100-year-old mansion offering a blend of Japanese and foreign-inspired ambiance

Completed in 1912, the building has been fully renovated to combine traditional Japanese features such as Azuma shoji screens and transoms with a sleek Western-style design. Large windows frame a seasonal Japanese garden—fresh spring greens, fiery autumn leaves—creating a museum-like atmosphere where time seems to pause. The second-floor café space can be reserved for private gatherings and is especially popular for its special seats overlooking the garden.
The contemporary interior preserves the soul of a century-old mansion. Subtle lighting and a refined Japanese–Western aesthetic create a stylish, unhurried space.
From the window-side seats, the interplay of light and shadow over the garden draws your eye. It hardly feels like a restaurant garden at all. When we visited in mid-November last year, the autumn foliage was spectacular, and my youngest daughter’s eyes sparkled as she said “The garden is glittering!”

We thoroughly enjoyed the “Aki Course”!
・Appetizer: Sea bream carpaccio with spinach quiche, served with tomato and mozzarella
The sea bream was pristine and tender, with a gentle bounce to the flesh and no fishiness. The cheese-rich spinach quiche paired beautifully with the fish—a plate as pretty as it is delicious. My eldest was so absorbed in taking photos that she took over ten shots of just this appetizer!

・Focaccia and corn cream soup
The corn cream soup was silky and full-flavored, clearly made with care. The moist, lightly sweet focaccia was excellent alongside. My youngest loved it so much she asked for seconds!

・Cream pasta with shrimp and mizuna
Vivid shrimp and mizuna make this pasta a feast for the eyes. The cream sauce clings perfectly to the noodles, carrying a bright shrimp aroma throughout—balanced and satisfying. My husband praised it highly, saying “It’s been a while since I’ve had such delicious pasta.”
・Sautéed spring vegetables with beef and mustard sauce
Potatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, pumpkin, arugula, and tomatoes come together with tender beef and a lively mustard sauce. Packed with seasonal vegetables, the dish has a gentle kick and melt-in-your-mouth beef. Even my youngest, who dislikes vegetables, finished everything saying “It’s delicious with the meat!” I was so moved.

・Tart with vanilla ice cream & coffee
A caramel-kissed tart topped with rich vanilla ice cream makes for an elegant finish. Aromatic coffee ties it all together. We all savored it slowly together, saying “This is so good.”
After your meal, be sure to visit Itsukushima Shrine. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Res Clos, and the evening hours are less crowded, making for a more peaceful visit.
